The Oman Munition Production Company marked the official opening of its light weapons production plant on Wednesday. The ceremony was held under the patronage of H E Sayyid Badr bin Saud bin Harib al Busaidi, Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs, at the factory’s headquarters in the wilayat of Samail in Dakhliyah.

The opening ceremony was attended by a quantity of dignitaries, ministers, commanders of the Sultan’s Armed Forces (SAF), officials from the military and safety forces. H E Busaidi along with the other attendees toured the facility to recognize the distinct stages of production. H E Busaidi was also presented a commemorative present on the occasion by Mohammed bin Nasser al Rasbi, secretary common in the Ministry of Defence and chairman of the Board of Directors of the Oman Munition Production Company.

The project aims at meeting the light ammunition requirements of SAF, the military and safety departments in Oman. Established as per the directives of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, the plant is the initial-of-its-type in Oman and its foundation stone was laid on March 26, 2015.

The initial production operations began in late 2016. Manurhin, a French organization, was contracted as a strategic companion for the manufacture of the required gear for this project, 1 of the most essential and newest projects of its type in Oman.

It is equipped with the newest strategies and created according to the highest international requirements. A quantity of larger diploma graduates had been enrolled in an integrated instruction programme at a neighborhood institution for recruitment as technical and administrative employees in the plant. They had been also sent abroad to attend specialised technical courses.

The plant will additional contribute to opening up new avenues for the Omani market, by offering possibilities for tiny and medium enterprises, jobs and technical experience to Omanis.
