The two-day workshop aims to regularise marine labour to meet all needs to make certain the labourers’ rights according to international requirements and needs.
The workshop, getting organised by the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC), started below the patronage of H E Said bin Hamdoon al Harthy, Undersecretary for Ports and Maritime Affairs.
H E Harthy stated the workshop aimed to go over the legal and technical rights of seafarers amongst all relevant parties, which includes the governmental and private authorities, ports and workers, to come up with suggestions, as effectively as discussing the problem of ships stranded in ports.
The workshop is getting attended by specialists from the International Transport Workers’ Federation, in addition to 38 participants from different relevant bodies in the sultanate, which includes the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Administrative Affairs Council for Judiciary, Ministry of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Manpower, Omani Lawyers Association, Oman Human Rights Commission, Maritime Security Centre, General Federation of Oman Trade Unions, Omani ports and shipping agency businesses and ship owners in the sultanate.
