Officials from the Ministry of Tourism (MoT), Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) and tourist camp operators have expressed their optimism for the upcoming winter tourist season in North Sharqiyah governorate. The season runs from October to April.

Desert camps in Sharqiyah prepare for winter season

According to Ali bin Salim al Hajri, an owner of a desert safari camp in Bidiyah, camps started their preparations for the 2018-19 winter tourist season early by escalating facilities at the camps and adding new recreational and sports programmes to the calendar of activities. A well-liked tourist location is the Rimal al Sharqiyah (Sharqiyah dunes), some 190km from the Governorate of Muscat. The simple to access location has noticed a lot of improvement in infrastructure not too long ago.

Mohammed bin Abdullah al Khunji, owner of Desert Nights Camp mentioned that the camps across the governorate provide globe-class facilities but not ignoring the neighborhood flavour. “Our camp allows visitors from across the world to experience Omani hospitality. The government has also been encouraging tourist camps to stick to regulations.

Talal bin Khalfan al Shu’aibi, director of Tourism Department in the Governorate of North Sharqiyah mentioned that there are 25 hotels in the governorate and numerous much more are in the pipeline. Shu’aibi pointed out that the winter tourist season in Rimal al Sharqiyah, is also an chance for the little and medium enterprises in the location to industry numerous solutions and sell genuine Omani items.
