During the 3-month khareef season, thousands of vacationers from Oman, the GCC and other components of the globe go to Dhofar which generates a large quantity of waste.
A Be’ah official mentioned, “This year Dhofar has received a lot of rain due to the effects of Tropical Cyclone Mekunu in May. Hundreds of animals too died due to it. Their bodies were found on the roads. To add to it, people have the habit of throwing trash on roads damaging the environment. That is why we came up with a campaign called, ‘Kharda’ which means to keep it clean.”
The official added that as component of the campaign they came up with a lot of enjoyable activities that aimed to spread the message of clean and green atmosphere. “We organised a safari for children and clean-up activities involving the youth. Popular Omani freestyle footballer Mohammed al Nofli and social media influencers Taraq al Busaidi and Munrher al Busaidi too participated in this campaign. We organised a children’s colouring contest, puppet show, storytelling and a music show too to spread the message.”
